Bill Sloan is a Hospice Chaplain for Heartland Hospice and one of the Pastors of Del Sol Church.  Bill and Laurie moved to Albuquerque in May of 2018 and dreamed of starting a church in Mesa del Sol.  In March of 2019 they were introduced to Drs Greg and Lorene Garcia who were also dreaming of starting a church that did things different and they began to meet weekly to pray and to plan.  Little did they know their dreams would lead to launching Del Sol Church in the middle of a pandemic on Palm Sunday 2020!  (They wanted it to be a different church and it was!)

Bill has served in churches in New Mexico, Texas, California, Georgia, Nebraska, and Florida as a Youth Pastor, Worship Pastor and Lead Pastor.  He and Laurie love being back in their home state (they both grew up in Roswell, NM) and close to their 3 kids Somer, Derrick and Mandy, their son in law Kirby, and their grand kids, Willa and Waylon!

Sheila Klopfer

Sheila Klopfer has been a professor for 15 years at Georgetown College, a liberal arts college in Kentucky. When she heard that Bill, Greg, and her sister, Lorene, were having conversations about starting a different kind of church in New Mexico, she was excited about the possibilities. So she began to join the meetings through Facetime and phone conversations. This summer she moved to Albuquerque, where she will serve as one of the pastors of Del Sol Church. She can’t wait to see what God is going to do!
Sheila loves the college classroom. She chaired the Religion Department and had the pleasure of accompanying young college students on their journeys of exploring God’s calling in their lives. At Georgetown Baptist Church, she served as a deacon and college minister, and could be talked into doing all kinds of other things in the community. She loves New Mexico and is glad to return this this beautiful state, where most of her family lives. In 2017, she jumped into the deep end and adopted her son, Toby, from China. She is now getting a new education in life and loving it!

Dr. Lorene & Dr. Greg Garcia

Dr. Lorene Garcia is a family medicine doctor in Albuquerque, NM and medical director at Silver Linings Hospice. Together with her husband Dr. Greg Garcia and four children, they have dreamed of starting a different kind of church in the Southwest. Not only for their own family but also for the city. So many people in their lives have been hurt by the church and they seek to create a healthy and healing community committed to Christ. For years they have been praying for God to open doors for them to begin a church with that desire. When the Sloan family came to their city their only question was, “when do we start?” They were so happy when the answer was now!

Greg Garcia was born and raised in Albuquerque.  He grew can up going to many different churches and experienced various expressions of worship and community.  Passionate about leading music with his wife Lorene, he seeks to worship in spirit and truth.   Greg has been a general surgeon with Presbyterian Medical Group since 2011, where he seeks to honor God by compassionately caring for people with all kinds of surgical problems.  Away from work he enjoys spending time with his four kids, and you’ll often find him playing 9 holes of golf during nap time on Saturday.  He strongly believes that we “are all one in Christ Jesus,” consisting of “many parts of one body, and we all belong to each other.”
